Old ReactOS website

Post by Rosh »

What happened to new ReactOS website that dropped some topics and translations to other languages?
In some way I am nostalgic when seeing old website.

Some info of old website:

http://web.archive.org/web/201201181857 ... index.html

http://web.archive.org/web/201201180159 ... erfaq.html

http://web.archive.org/web/201201180355 ... eview.html

http://web.archive.org/web/201201180200 ... paper.html

http://web.archive.org/web/201201180357 ... actos.html

It could be better to have all old website info into actual ReactOS site.

It definitely would have been better to have all the old data carried forward from the old site including important information and page names &c. However, this wasn't done and some of the data is no longer being presented.

The translations? The underlying technology of the site was changed and setting up translation for a new technology/new version can be a long and complicated task if the resulting translation is going to be a good and accurate one (a tool for mapping page content and then each page has to be translated to each actual language, or an automatic translation service from the likes of google) I am assuming that the work was assessed as being too onerous and not prioritised as being worthwhile and therefore not even started - I know all us 'Techies' speak English these days so would the work have been worthwhile? I know the translations would have been worthwhile for many of the casual visitors that don't speak English.

If you think a page should be created then raise a bug on JIRA re: the website and include the pertinent information missing, and a link to the wayback machine. Don't be nostalgic as that won't cut much ice. Raise each on purely technical grounds and pertinence/usefulness.

I have to say though the chances of it making its way back to the site are slim. Other changes requested have not made it to the website and feedback from those responsible for the site is - infrequent. Don't hold your hopes up!

Like all other issues/changes with ROS, if you want to submit a bug/issue with the website, JIRA is the way to go: https://jira.reactos.org/projects/ONLIN ... openissues
